The Wellfleet Preschool Playgroup, thanks to a $25,000 donation by town meeting, and a group of parents who were determined not to let this 30-year institution die for lack of funding, will be reborn as a Montessori preschool in the fall.

Christie O’Campbell, one of the parents on the board of the coop that runs the preschool, said they have hired Jackie O’Hara, a former teacher at the Montessori school in Bourne, as the new director of the preschool.

O’Hara will be introduced to the public at an open house Sunday, June 28, at the Wellfleet Public Library, where parents will also be able to register their children in the school.

“We are thrilled that Jackie O’Hara has decided to join us and have been blown away by her vision for the school,” O’Campbell said. “We have already received a substantial anonymous donation to outfit our classroom with dynamic new Montessori materials. The children will walk into a clean, freshly painted classroom to greet a new year that will offer the opportunities for fun, leaning and enrichment that we have been hoping for.”
